Party & Event Caricatures FAQ

1. What are caricatures?
Caricatures are playful, exaggerated portraits that capture a person’s distinct features in a fun and humorous way. A talented caricature artist RI can quickly sketch a guest’s face, accentuating key characteristics like facial expressions or unique traits. These portraits are often drawn in black and white for simplicity and speed, making them ideal for large gatherings. Caricatures bring laughter and entertainment to any event, while also giving guests a one-of-a-kind keepsake to take home.

2. How much time do you need, or how many artists can I hire?
Each caricature artist RI can draw about 6-10 faces per hour, depending on the level of detail and the flow of the event. For larger parties or events with many guests, we can provide up to four artists to keep the process moving smoothly. This allows for more guests to be entertained and ensures that everyone has a chance to take home a personalized caricature. To ensure enough time, consider the number of guests and discuss your needs with our office when booking.

3. What do I need to provide for setup?
For each caricature artist RI, you’ll need to provide one table and three chairs—one for the artist and two for the guests being drawn. If your event is outdoors, a shaded area or tent is recommended to keep the artist and guests comfortable. For indoor events, a climate-controlled area is best. This simple setup helps ensure a smooth process, allowing the artist to work efficiently while keeping guests comfortable.

4. Do the guests get to keep the caricatures?
Yes! Each guest gets to keep their caricature as a special souvenir from the event. These fun, personalized drawings are a unique way for guests to remember the occasion and are sure to be a hit.

5. Do you do them in color or with bodies?
We focus on black-and-white facial caricatures because adding color and full-body illustrations takes significantly more time. This allows us to draw more guests during the event and keep the line moving, so everyone gets a chance to enjoy their caricature.

6. How many faces can you fit on one sheet of paper?
Ideally, we fit 1-2 faces on a standard sheet of paper, but we can accommodate up to 3 faces if needed. If you’d like to fit more guests on a larger sheet, contact our office during booking for a special order, and we’ll arrange it based on your needs.

Interview with Allie: RI Caricature Artist

1. How did you get into caricatures?
I’ve always been passionate about art, and after earning my Associate’s degree in art, I wanted to find a way to combine my skills with something fun and interactive. In 2019, I started working with Kaleidoscope as a caricature artist, and I’ve loved it ever since. It’s been a great way to merge my artistic background with live entertainment, which brings so much joy to people at all kinds of events.

2. What makes a good caricature?
A good caricature captures more than just someone’s likeness—it captures their personality. It’s all about identifying those unique traits that make each person stand out and highlighting them in a fun way. The goal is for the person to look at the caricature and feel like it’s a reflection of who they are, not just how they look.

3. Do you ever “roast” people in caricatures?
No, I don’t “roast” people in my caricatures. While I do bring out their most distinctive features, my goal is always to make them feel good about what makes them unique. I want people to smile and feel happy when they see their caricature, not self-conscious or embarrassed.

4. What kind of events are your favorites?
My favorite events are definitely corporate events and any gatherings with adults. Adults tend to have more unique and distinct facial features, which makes the caricatures a lot more fun and interesting to draw. Plus, I love the conversations that happen during the drawing process at those types of events.

5. What’s your favorite part of being a caricature artist?
My favorite part of being a caricature artist is hands down the reactions I get when I turn the page around and show someone their drawing. That moment of surprise and excitement is what makes the job so rewarding. Seeing people laugh and enjoy the portrait is always the best part!
